What happened after The Hotel Inspector?
Stump Cross Caverns, a show-cave visitor attraction on Greenhow Hill in the Yorkshire Dales, was featured in the eighteenth-series Hotel Inspector episode 'Stump Cross Caverns', which aired on Channel 5 on 2023-10-24 with Alex Polizzi. TheTVDB's listing describes a historic family business facing an uncertain future. The attraction's own blog post, dated 2024-01-26, recalls the visit: the owners told Alex the caverns were busy at half-term but quiet in off-peak and shoulder periods, and it cited closures during the pandemic and rising costs. Alex suggested extending the season beyond the school holidays, widening the appeal to adults as well as children, streamlining the on-site shop and unifying the business around a single story for visitors. The post, which says the owners bought the business in 2003, reports that the shop is now easier to maintain and that the owners plan to follow the advice gradually.
In the same post the business reported that, since the episode aired, cave visitors were up 10 to 15 percent, shop visitors had doubled and profits had risen by 100 percent; these figures are the business's own. The attraction's home page, checked on 2026-10-20, carries a 2026 copyright and lists opening hours (closed on Tuesdays, open 10:00 to 17:00 on other weekdays and 10:00 to 18:00 at weekends). It sells tickets online, with a 25 percent discount for visitors arriving after 4pm, and shows a VisitYork Tourism Awards 2025 winner badge.
