Cal Marchetti, editor
Cal Marchetti is the editor of TVRestaurants.com. He sets the site's verification rules, makes the final call on disputed records and decides what is published. Every status on the site is checked against the named, dated sources shown on its page.
What the editor is responsible for
- The rules. When a restaurant counts as open, closed, renamed, relocated or under new ownership, and what evidence each of those needs. The rules are published in the Editorial & Corrections Policy.
- Judgment calls. Records where the evidence conflicts (a listing says closed, a website says open), where a business has changed hands or names, or where two sources describe different places with the same name. These are decided one at a time, and the decision is written into the page's status line and sources.
- Corrections. Every report sent through the corrections page or to [email protected] is read and answered, and the page's last-verified date is updated when a correction is confirmed.
- What gets published. A record goes live only when it has a dated, named source for its status. Records that do not meet that bar are held back, not published as a guess.
How the research is done
Each record starts from the episode itself (network episode guides, the episode's own listing and, where it exists, the broadcast). The restaurant is then located and its current status checked against its own website or social accounts, local news, business-licence and company records where a city or country publishes them, and map and review listings. The editor's rules decide what a source is allowed to establish, and every page shows the sources it rests on and the date it was last checked.
The site covers 5,870 restaurants, bars and hotels from 21 shows across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Counts of what is open and closed, by show and by place, are on the statistics page.
