What happened after Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network)?
Chef Robert Irvine visited Tavares, Florida for the episode "Soup to Nuts Diner," which aired March 17, 2013 on Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network). The 1950s-themed diner was owned by Sharon Whitmore, who had run it for about nine years; the show depicted a dining room and kitchen the crew found badly neglected, plus a young staff Irvine felt needed better training in basic service, with Whitmore described as at risk of losing her house over the diner's losses. Irvine's team deep-cleaned the dining room and kitchen, refreshed the retro 1950s decor, and retrained the staff on service fundamentals, while narrowing the menu to a shorter list of diner dishes made from fresh ingredients rather than the frozen items the crew found on site.
The two-day process ended with a relaunch dinner built around the updated menu and cleaned-up space, with Whitmore expressing hope the changes would turn around the diner's finances and save her home. According to Food Network Gossip, the diner closed in May 2013, less than two months after the broadcast, with Whitmore citing mortgage payments and payroll taxes. Customer reviews on TripAdvisor beginning in mid-2014 describe a different restaurant at the same address, 381 E Burleigh Blvd in Tavares, opened by a new owner as the "441 Diner" (also styled Hwy 441 Diner), a similarly 1950s-themed restaurant with an expanded menu and additional decor such as a jukebox; one reviewer in September 2014 specifically identified it as the former Soup to Nuts space under new ownership, and another reviewer that August recalled it as having previously been Soup to Nuts.
A Triangle Sun profile says new owner Billy Nasrala opened Hwy 441 Diner there in 2014, about a year after Soup to Nuts closed. No source reviewed for this entry documents the diner's operating status after 2014, so the current status of the business at this address is not independently confirmed here.
