The Mad Chef Cafe in Courtenay, British Columbia, opened the You Gotta Eat Here! episode 'The Mad Chef, MLTDWN, Twisted Apron', which aired on 2014-06-27. TheTVDB's episode summary says host John Catucci went insane eating the café's Death By Bacon Burgerrito, and IMDb's plot summary places the café in Courtenay. A 2012 review on the Wend blog called it kid-friendly, celiac-friendly and wacky, and YellowPages lists it at 444 5th Street with a Latin American menu.
When checked on 2026-10-20, Google Maps listed Mad Chef Cafe at 444 5th Street as permanently closed, with no review newer than about eight years, and Google's Places data returned the same closed status that day. None of the sources read gives a closing date.
