What Happened to Bella Luna After Kitchen Nightmares? (Easton, PA)

Bella Luna Ristorante was an Italian restaurant in Easton, Pennsylvania, run by owner Rosaria Scollo alongside her son Gianfranco, a culinary-school graduate who served as the restaurant's chef. Filmed in July 2013, the episode built its confrontation around a staged mock trial in which former customers were called as "witnesses" against the restaurant, airing complaints about its decor, service, and food while Ramsay served as judge. Ramsay found that a restaurant advertising fresh ingredients was regularly serving frozen ones, among other problems with the kitchen's operation.

Despite the hostile testimony, Ramsay concluded the restaurant was salvageable and urged the disgruntled former patrons to give it another chance after he made changes. The renovation brightened the previously gloomy dining room, restructured how the business was managed, and pared the menu down to dishes made with fresh ingredients. Diners who visited after the taping but before the episode aired left a mix of positive and negative Yelp reviews: some praised the improved decor and service, while others missed dropped menu items such as a side salad, or found that the limited lasagna offering sold out early some nights.

By the time the episode aired in May 2014, the restaurant had already been closed for roughly six months. According to Mashed (2024-01-07, updated 2024-09-04), Scollo said business had actually improved after Ramsay's visit, with triple the previous customer traffic, but the restaurant fell several months behind on rent, and the landlord put the building up for sale as a result, forcing Bella Luna to close in November 2013. Separately, a few weeks after the restaurant had already closed, Pennsylvania state police found that Bella Luna had served alcohol for a period the previous May without a currently valid liquor license, though the license was back in compliance both during Ramsay's visit and at the time of closure; the lapse played no evident role in the restaurant's closure.

Scollo has said she hoped to reopen Bella Luna somewhere in the Easton area, but has not done so in the years since. The building has since housed at least two other Italian restaurants, DeLorenzo's and, since 2022, Tony's Pizza.
