Old Neighborhood was a 33-year-old restaurant in Arvada, Colorado, run for 25 of those years by married owners Randy and Alexa Kowalczyk, with Randy managing the front of house and Alexa the kitchen. By the time Ramsay's crew filmed in July 2013, the couple was roughly $320,000 in debt, and the restaurant had accumulated peeling wallpaper, a large collection of "antique" decor including a mannequin nicknamed Fiona, and, according to Ramsay's on-air assessment at the time of filming, some of the dirtiest kitchen conditions he had encountered on the show. A kitchen walkthrough turned up rancid food and mold in the walk-in cooler, along with food-safety issues from storing raw and cooked items together, prompting Ramsay to halt dinner service; only a full night of cleaning and the Kowalczyks' pleading convinced him to keep working with the restaurant rather than leave.
