What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

Devon Bay Hotel is a hotel in Ilfracombe on the North Devon coast. It featured in Series 15, episode 6 of The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5), which aired on 2019-07-11 under the title "Devon Bay Hotel, Ilfracombe". According to TheTVDB's episode page, Alex Polizzi visited the 51-bedroom hotel, which was run by general manager Adrian and his wife Gill. The hotel had a poor reputation, but Adrian had persuaded low-cost coach parties to return. With the summer season approaching and no hospitality experience behind him, he was beginning to see how hard it would be to deliver what he had promised. The episode page asks whether Alex can turn him into a real hotelier before the coaches arrive. Wikipedia's list of Hotel Inspector episodes gives the same title and air date.

What has happened since: A Trip.com listing, read on 2026-10-19 and carrying a 2026 copyright notice, names a 2-star Devon Bay Hotel with a partial address of Wilder Road in the North Devon district. It lists check-in and check-out times and a phone number, shows default search dates of 27 to 28 October, and says it is waiting for its first reviews. It does not say whether the hotel is open or closed.

The North Devon Gazette reported on 2026-03-10 that the Devon Bay Hotel in Ilfracombe closed its doors in 2020. The paper said a four-storey property at 3 Fortescue Road, part of the former hotel site, was listed for auction at a guide price of £95,000, with planning permission granted on 2025-10-24 for conversion into four flats, and that the rest of the former hotel complex was available separately. Companies House lists a company named Devon Bay Hotel Ltd, incorporated on 2015-12-03, as dissolved on 2021-12-07.
