What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?
Dillon's was a Manhattan restaurant near Broadway owned by Mohammad Islam, who had hired three separate managers -- general manager Martin, operations manager Andrew, and floor manager Khan -- for a business that, as shown in the episode, was losing roughly $20,000 a month. The concept itself was muddled: staff described the menu as Irish-American with an Indian influence, and Ramsay found the dining room nearly empty, with flies present both in the front of house and in the kitchen. His meal arrived with meat hidden in a dish billed as vegetarian, a curry garnished with a rotten tomato, and a beef dish that turned out to be lamb.
A kitchen inspection turned up rotten meat and vegetables, green chicken wings, roach activity, and rat droppings and traps in the basement. Ramsay shut the kitchen down mid-inspection and brought in a professional cleaning crew before taking the owner and his managers to see his own restaurant's food-safety standards. For the relaunch, Ramsay eliminated the Western half of the menu entirely, brought in chef Vikas Khanna to lead a fully Indian menu, redecorated the dining room, and renamed the restaurant Purnima. The relaunch had a rocky first service -- dishes went out cold as Martin's attention lapsed -- but improved once floor manager Khan, rather than Martin, took charge of the front of house; Martin quit before Ramsay could recommend he be let go.
According to court filings cited by Reality TV Revisited, former general manager Martin Hyde sued Ramsay and the production for $3 million before the episode aired and sought to block the broadcast, alleging that some of what was shown, including the rotten meat, had been staged; the suit was dismissed and the episode aired as planned. Ramsay revisited a year later and found Purnima's kitchen still clean and chef Khanna still in place. Newsweek's February 18, 2026 report on Kitchen Nightmares restaurants nonetheless lists the business, under its original name, among the Season 1 closures, and a fan site last updated June 2023 dates Purnima's closure to 2009, about two years after the episode aired. The fan sites realitytvupdates.com and realitytvrevisited.com describe a string of later tenants at the same West 54th Street location, including a comedy club and a bar, though those later occupants have not been independently confirmed.
