What happened after Bar Rescue?
El K'rajo, a beachfront bar in the Piñones section of Loíza, Puerto Rico, anchored the special Bar Rescue episode "Operation: Puerto Rico," which aired July 22, 2018. Unlike a typical rescue built around owner mismanagement, this episode centered on recovery from Hurricane Maria: the storm had torn the roof off the bar and buried the space under roughly six feet of sand, leaving the owners without a working business and, according to the episode, in danger of losing their home. Jon Taffer's team rebuilt the physical bar from the ground up and brought in a wider group to help, including Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Mavericks player J.J. Barea, actor Luis Guzmán, entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel, and musician Bernie Williams.
Along with the bar itself, the team repaired the local community center, known as Centro Comunal Piñones-Loíza, along with its playground, baseball field, and basketball court, all of which had also been damaged by the hurricane; Taffer personally covered $12,000 of the owners' mortgage to keep them from losing their house. This project treated the episode's three named entities — El K'rajo, the Centro Comunal Piñones-Loíza community center, and "Bienvenidos A Loíza" — as one bar record rather than three, since only El K'rajo is an operating commercial bar; the other two are the community center and a Loíza welcome/community initiative that were repaired or supported as part of the same broader relief effort, not separate bars, and that context is preserved here rather than split into additional records. El K'rajo reopened in April 2018, ahead of the episode's broadcast, and the bar's name was not changed.
It continues to operate today at its Piñones beachfront location, per its own website, which lists current weekend hours and features ongoing 2024 and 2025 Instagram activity. A Yelp listing for the bar shows the page updated in May 2026, and Tripadvisor reviews as recent as 2023 describe it as still run by the same couple featured on the show. Based on that combination of sources, the business is treated here as open.
