Man v. Food's "Atlanta, GA" episode (S1E07), which aired 2009-01-07, featured Gladys Knight & Ron Winans' Chicken & Waffles and the restaurant's namesake chicken and waffles. The restaurant chain bore the names of singer Gladys Knight and gospel singer Ron Winans and operated multiple Atlanta-area locations, including one at 529 Peachtree Street NE in downtown Atlanta. According to WSB-TV (2016-08-25), the State of Georgia had seized the restaurant chain's three locations and arrested its operator, Shanga Hankerson, on theft and racketeering charges in June 2016; the report added that the DeKalb County location near the Mall at Stonecrest closed permanently on August 21, 2016, leaving only the Peachtree Street and Cascade Road locations still operating at that time.
