What happened after Restaurant Takeover?
Golden Pizza, at 2360 Danforth Avenue in Toronto, was the subject of the first episode of Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada) season two, which aired on 2013-08-28. TVmaze's episode page describes a shop that had not closed for a single day in almost 30 years. Its owner, Andy, had stayed so wrapped up in the business that he had little sense of how the world around it had changed. His daughter Stephanie, who grew up in the restaurant, and her husband Chris wanted to renovate a space they saw as outdated. The show sent in chef Corbin Tomaszeski and designer Montana Burnett to see whether they could revive the business.
The renovation is described most clearly by blogTO. A blogTO page on the restaurant says Golden Pizza received a major upgrade in 2012 through Restaurant Takeover, and that the dining lounge, which had looked worn, was completely revamped. The same page says the menu still included panzerotti and a super deluxe pizza topped with mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, olives, pepperoni, bacon, green peppers and anchovies. That page carries no date other than the 2012 upgrade, and none of the pages read for this entry describe a change of owner, a new name or a new menu. TV Foodies, a fan directory of TV-featured restaurants, lists Golden Pizza at 2360 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, as featured on the show; its listing page, published 2014-07-21, gives no episode details beyond that.
After the episode, the written record is thin. No news story, owner statement or dated review turned up for the restaurant in the checks made for this entry. A Google Maps listing for Golden Pizza at 2360 Danforth Avenue, checked on 2026-10-19, shows the business as operational; that listing is the only current source behind this entry. The Golden Pizza at 1201 Broadview Avenue, which has its own separate blogTO page, is an unrelated business and is not the restaurant from the episode.
City of Toronto business licence records list Golden Pizza at 2360 Danforth Avenue under 623581 Ontario Ltd from 1986-01-06 until that company's licence was cancelled on 2016-07-13, about three years after the episode aired. According to the same records, the pizzeria has since been licensed under the name Golden Pizza Restaurant to three different companies, in 2016, 2017 and 2019, and the 2019 licence is still active. A Google Maps listing checked 2026-10-19 shows Golden Pizza at the same address as operating, with reviews dated August 3 and August 19, 2026.
