What happened after Restaurant Takeover?
The 6th Street Pub and Grill episode of Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada) aired on 2012-09-20. TVmaze's synopsis centers on Mick, who lost more than a job when the 6th Street Pub and Grill closed its doors, and who then used what money he could gather to reopen a pub under a new lease. The reopening had not brought in customers, so the show sent Andrea Nicholson, a competitor from the first season of Top Chef Canada, as chef, together with designer Cheryl Torrenueva.
Some listings use a different title for the same episode. TheTVDB titles it Shamrock & Thistle and repeats the Mick synopsis, and TV Guide's season listing includes a Shamrock & Thistle entry that describes a struggling pub receiving a makeover in Etobicoke, Ontario. On that basis this entry treats the pub Mick reopened as the Shamrock & Thistle in Etobicoke, a western district of Toronto. No page I read ties the episode to a street address.
blogTO's listing for a pub called Shamrock & Thistle, which carries no date, describes a bar with a worn exterior sign that draws regulars with live music and televised sports and serves classic pub food. A blogTO street feature on the Village of Islington, whose web address carries the date July 2011, mentions the same pub, with the writer noting that the Fox and Fiddle nearby gets more of the attention. The research for this entry places the pub at 4923 Dundas Street West, an address drawn from blogTO's Etobicoke listing; the text of the pages I could retrieve did not show an address.
The pages I read do not itemize the menu, decor or name changes made during the episode, or describe how the relaunch went. The latest dated source I found that mentions the pub is the July 2011 street feature, which predates the episode, and I found no later article, directory entry or map listing that reports on it. This entry therefore has no dated information about the pub after 2012.
City of Toronto business licence records list 6th Street Pub and Grill, operated by 2325736 Ontario Inc at 4923 Dundas Street West, licensed from 2012-07-18 until its last licence was cancelled on 2018-02-07. According to the same records, a pizzeria called Via Napoli was licensed at the address from 2018-05-28, and Via Napoli Pizzeria holds the current licence there.
