What happened after Hotel Impossible?

Gurney's Inn, an oceanfront resort in Montauk, New York, appeared in the Hotel Impossible series premiere on Travel Channel, which aired April 9, 2012, in an episode Wikipedia describes as addressing a property that had not kept up with the times. According to Wikipedia's entry on Gurney's Inn, the resort's Skippers Cottage was where Richard Nixon wrote his acceptance speech, and the property offered a seawater pool and group accommodations for weddings and business meetings. Wikipedia reports that in 2015 the resort underwent a major renovation and retrofitting and took the name Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, adding renovated rooms and an expanded spa; the same article notes it holds the only license on Long Island's East End permitting an on-beach ocean restaurant.

In 2017, according to Wikipedia, the ownership group opened a second property, Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina, in the former Hyatt Regency on Goat Island in Newport, Rhode Island, and the article also notes a further acquisition in 2018. A check of gurneysresorts.com on September 9, 2026, found the Montauk property still listed as Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, describing 158 rooms, suites, and beachfront cottages, along with residence-style accommodations and standalone oceanfront cottages available to book. Google Places lists the business as operational at 290 Old Montauk Highway, Montauk, New York.
