What happened after Project Bakeover?
Homestead Artisan Bakery + Cafe, a sourdough-focused bakery on Dunlop Street East in downtown Barrie, Ontario, was the tenth and last bakery of the first season of Project Bakeover (Food Network Canada). Its episode, "All Bread, No Dough," aired 2021-06-24. Wikipedia's episode table credits pastry chef Steve Hodge's items for the episode as a chocolate and pistachio ganache cake, cookie cups, and an olive oil cake with roasted grapes. The outstandinggrads.ca recognition program, in a profile of owners Cait Patrick and Lise Ravalli listed among its 2022 recipients, reported that the bakery was selected for the series in 2021 and that the production renovated the space and revamped its menu with industry professionals.
The same profile reported that the friends started Homestead in 2014 by selling at the Barrie Farmers' Market, opened their first downtown cafe in May 2016, and trained under master baker Jeffrey Hamelman. Bakers Journal (Doug Picklyk, 2016-06-16) described the new downtown bakery and cafe, owned by Lise Garden and Cait Patrick, as built around local ingredients. The Downtown Barrie website (downtownbarrie.ca) reported on 2019-02-06 that the cafe had hosted a do-it-yourself bread-baking evening in which the owners taught guests to bake sourdough and serve soup in a bread bowl. In a featured-business entry dated 2024-12-18, the same site described the bakery's long-fermented sourdough, made in small batches with locally milled flours.
The bakery's own website, homesteadartisanbakery.com, carried posts dated 2025-07-25 and 2026-04-21, the latter a beginner's guide to maintaining a sourdough starter. Two further posts were dated 2026-08-12: one marking ten years of Homestead in downtown Barrie, and one introducing Palette Cafe & Provisions, a cafe inside the MacLaren Art Centre in downtown Barrie from the team behind Homestead and Good Monday Coffee Roasters. The site listed hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, and it had an online cart. A Google Places record retrieved 2026-10-19 listed the business at 80 Dunlop St E as operational.
