What happened after Project Bakeover?
Mecairo's Cake Company, listed locally as Mecairo's Cake Co., a custom cake bakery in Etobicoke, a district of Toronto, Ontario, was the sixth bakery on Project Bakeover (Food Network Canada). Its episode, "Homemade to Home Run," aired 2021-05-27. According to Wikipedia, the first season's opening run of episodes began on 2021-02-04, and the remaining five, starting with this one, began airing on 2021-05-27. Wikipedia credits pastry chef Steve Hodge's items for the episode as chocolate bonbons, a deconstructed key lime cheesecake parfait, and the Mecairo Mini, a mini layer cake covered in tempered chocolate. The same page describes the series as one in which Hodge and designer Tiffany Pratt help struggling bakeries transform their menus and decor. The table does not describe the bakery's problems, the decor changes or the relaunch, and no other source read for this entry covered the episode.
The bakery's own website, mecairos.com, was reachable on 2026-10-19 but carried a 2019 copyright footer. It presented the business as a custom cake studio serving Toronto, with gallery sections for wedding, baby shower, youthful, sculpted, religious and mature cakes, plus pages for treats and flavours, a custom quote form, a media page and customer testimonials. It listed phone hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. any day. The page contained no mention of Project Bakeover, a move or a closing, and it gave no street address. A search result for the shopping directory shopping-canada.com lists Mecairo's Cake Co in Centennial Park Plaza, Etobicoke, postal code M9C 5M1, which matches the postal code in the Google Places record.
The Google Places record retrieved 2026-10-19 marks Mecairo's Cake Co at 5555 Eglinton Ave W as permanently closed. A listing's status is not a closure date, and no news report, owner announcement or notice from the plaza was found that gives a date or a reason. Because the website carries a 2019 copyright, it cannot be used to confirm either operation or closure.
