What happened after Mystery Diners?
On 'Lobster Looting,' the Mystery Diners episode that aired 2016-01-20, the owners of Langosta Lounge, a seafood restaurant and bar on the Asbury Park boardwalk, told Charles Stiles about discrepancies in their lobster supply and asked him to investigate. Stiles's undercover team worked the kitchen and bar and reported their findings to ownership, who addressed the issue with the staff involved and, consistent with the show's usual format, were advised on tightening receiving and inventory checks. Wikipedia's article on Mystery Diners, citing its sources, notes the show discloses that some scenes are staged or re-enacted, and a television critic has called several of its scenarios implausible.
Langosta Lounge closed in February 2023, as Patch and the Asbury Park Sun reported. According to Patch, which reported the news on 2023-01-27, owner Marilyn Schlossbach held a farewell weekend from February 2 through February 4, 2023 and sold the boardwalk space, after fourteen years, to BarCo Brands, the operator behind Deal Lake Bar + Co. Patch reported that BarCo Brands would open a different restaurant and bar, The Break, in the space, while the neighboring Asbury Park Yacht Club, also part of the sale, would become "Low Dive." NJ1015 also reported the sale and closure. The restaurant's own website, still online in September 2026 under the old Langosta Lounge branding, retains a closing announcement reading in part, in its own words, 'Our Final Day: Sun.2/5.'
