What happened after Restaurant Takeover?
Peninsula Resort, on Holmes Point Road beside Lake Simcoe in Pefferlaw, Ontario, appeared on Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada) on 2012-09-13. TV Guide's season listing describes it as a 50-year-old waterfront restaurant in Pefferlaw. TVmaze's synopsis says the resort was about to mark 50 years in business, that profits had dropped, and that family loyalties were being tested. Chef Derek Minkensky and designer Montana Burnett were given six days to refresh what the synopsis calls a tired lakeside establishment and to set it up for its next half century.
The pages I read do not itemize what changed in the menu, decor, staff or name, or how the relaunch went, so this entry does not describe them.
Peninsula Resort's own website, read on 2026-10-19, presents an all-season resort on Lake Simcoe near the Pefferlaw River. It lists lakefront suites and waterfront cottages, a day park open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and year-round ice fishing, and it directs visitors to reserve by phone at 705-437-1890. The site gives the address as 202 Holmes Point Road, shows a 2024 copyright notice, and carries no dated news or blog entries and no mention of a restaurant. The older web address peninsularesort.net forwards visitors to peninsularesort.ca.
A directory page on canada247.info lists the business as lodging at the same address, with daily hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It reproduces five visitor reviews, all written between 2018-07-22 and 2018-08-13. Those reviews disagree on whether food is sold on site: one mentions a restaurant, while another says there is no food or beverage establishment on the property.
