What happened after Bar Rescue?
The Canyon Inn had operated in Yorba Linda, California since owner Pauly Ambrus, a former minor-league baseball player, bought the bar in 2004. Business had been strong early on, but Ambrus resisted upgrading the space or running promotions as newer competitors opened nearby, and general manager Johnny's advice to modernize went unheeded. Recon visits described an insular, clique-like regular crowd that made new customers uneasy, plastic cups used for shots, canned soup and frozen food in the kitchen, and an incident in which a male customer repeatedly propositioned Jon Taffer's wife, Nicole, during an undercover visit.
The rescue's changes covered both the physical space and the bar's identity: an expert chef and bartender retrained staff on drink consistency and food quality, pour spouts were added to reduce over-pouring, and the bar's layout was reworked, including plans to convert its pool-table area into a dance floor. Ambrus resisted nearly every proposed change, including a rename to Canyon Saloon Spirits and Steaks, and told Taffer at one point that he considered himself capable of running his own rescue. He ultimately accepted the new name and decor for the relaunch, though he remained openly unhappy about the rebrand even as he praised the interior work.
Around two months after the episode aired, Ambrus dropped the Canyon Saloon name and returned the bar to a Canyon Inn identity, later formalized as Canyon Inn Sports Bar & Grill -- the name it still operates under today. The bar has continued operating for more than a decade since, with mixed reviews citing low drink prices and regular live music alongside recurring complaints about food quality. In July 2025, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control suspended the bar's liquor license for 35 days after an investigation found employees had served alcohol to two minors, an incident that led to a single-vehicle collision that killed one passenger and seriously injured the driver; the board also imposed a separate three-year suspension that remains in effect only if further violations occur.
