What happened after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured The Pit Stop in Merrick for the episode "A Little Twisted," which aired 2011-01-31, highlighting the diner's made-from-scratch Cuban Sandwich and Stuffed Spaghetti Squash. The Pit Stop has been run by the Rubano family since 2001, when the family began serving homemade, counter-serve meals from a former 1950s ice cream shop at 1706 Sunrise Hwy. Reviews posted to the restaurant's website describe additional menu items such as a brisket sandwich and a knish-topped burger, along with catering service for private parties. The Pit Stop's own website, thepitstopny.com, lists an active Toast online-ordering link, current menu categories, and social-media links to Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, and Tripadvisor, consistent with the diner still operating at the Sunrise Highway address.
