What happened after Restaurant Takeover?
Village Pizza on Queen Street South in Tottenham, Ontario, was the restaurant that opened the run of Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada) when the series premiered on 2012-08-30. Tottenham is part of the Town of New Tecumseth, north of Toronto. TVmaze's synopsis describes a place that had once been a hotspot for the small town, where the owner, Bernice, had let her love of collecting odds and ends take over the dining room. The episode sent in chef Corbin Tomaszeski to rework a menu the synopsis describes as out of step, and designer Paula Velez to clear away the kitsch and give the eccentric room a clearer style.
The Globe and Mail's television listing for Thursday, Aug. 30 described the series opener as the pair's trip to Tottenham to update a pizzeria that was once popular. The same listing explained the show's method: hidden-camera footage is used to work out what a business is missing, and a makeover is planned from there. TV Guide's season listing also names Tottenham, Ontario, and marks Village Pizza as the premiere.
None of the pages I read itemizes the new menu, the decor that replaced the clutter, or how the relaunch went, so this entry does not describe them.
The New Tecumseth Times followed up on 2021-08-04 in a story by Brian Lockhart, a Local Journalism Initiative reporter. It reported that owner Bernice Augusto had closed Village Pizza Restaurant after 32 years on Queen Street and was retiring from the restaurant business. According to the paper, she had added the Baja Luna Lounge to the building, with a patio at the rear, after buying the property. The paper also reported that the building had been sold and that a new restaurant might open there, which it described as unconfirmed. The story does not mention the television episode and gives no street number.
A Google Maps listing for The Village Restaurant at 60 Queen Street South in Tottenham was marked permanently closed when checked on 2026-10-19. The listing's name differs slightly from the show's, and this entry takes its street address from that listing.
