What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?
The episode featured chef Mourad Lahlou's Moroccan-spiced cooking at Aziza, the dish that built the restaurant's reputation for reworking traditional North African flavors into a refined tasting-menu format. Aziza is a Moroccan restaurant in San Francisco's Richmond District; according to the San Francisco Chronicle, Lahlou ran it for 15 years before closing it in 2016 for what was planned as a short renovation, then reopened it on 2019-10-21 after permitting delays pushed the process past a year. The restaurant's official site, azizasf.com, currently lists dinner service Wednesday through Sunday and weekend brunch, with menu content dated as recently as April 2026, indicating the Geary Boulevard restaurant remains active. This is a separate business from Mourad, Lahlou's downtown fine-dining restaurant, which SFGate and SFist reported closed for good in October 2024.
