What happened after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Season 4, Episode 10 Aired
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering in the 2008-10-06 episode "Cookin' It Old School," spotlighting the restaurant's soul food menu, including fried chicken. Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering is a soul food restaurant in North Omaha, Nebraska, founded by chef Patricia "Big Mama" Barron, whose home-based catering business grew into a full-service restaurant and banquet facility that opened in December 2007, according to the restaurant's own site, bigmamaskitchen.com. Food Network's restaurant directory separately lists the business as having been featured nationally on Diners, Drive-In and Dives.
Man v. Food, Season 8, Episode 6 Aired
On Man v. Food, Casey Webb visited Big Mama's Kitchen in North Omaha for a soul-food challenge built around the restaurant's fried chicken and Southern sides. The family-owned restaurant had operated out of the former Nebraska School for the Deaf cafeteria building at the time of filming. Seventy Five North, the development group behind the project, reported on January 6, 2020, that Big Mama's Kitchen was relocating into the new Highlander Accelerator Building at 30th and Parker Streets as part of the Seventy Five North Development.
A Yelp listing updated August 2026 shows the restaurant still operating at that newer address, sharing the building with a Metropolitan Community College satellite campus and a Creighton University wellness center. The restaurant's own site, bigmamaskitchen.com, lists the Highlander building as its current home, and the business continues to offer both dine-in service and catering under the same family ownership.
