What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5) visited The First In Last Out in Winchester, Hampshire, in an episode that aired on 18 April 2011 (series 7, episode 1). According to the show's episode list on Wikipedia, it was a 17th-century pub with B&B rooms run by Jon Sweeney, and it had been collecting negative reviews. Alex Polizzi declined to sleep there after a problem in the shower room and used the visit to stress the importance of cleaning.

Star Pubs, the Heineken-owned pub company, announced on 15 April 2026 that the pub had been shut since January 2019, a gap of about seven years. Its news release said Star Pubs would put 450,000 pounds into a refurbishment, that works would begin on 20 April, and that the pub would reopen in early June under a new licensee, Katie Moldon, a Winchester native and former customer. The release described a large riverside garden backing onto the River Itchen and said six jobs would be created.

The pub's own website, checked on 2026-10-19, gave 5 June 2026 as the day its doors would open after a refurbishment, and it listed opening hours for every day of the week and food service from Tuesday to Sunday. The site's menu shows pages for drinks, food, events and a gallery but no accommodation page, so it is not clear from the site whether the B&B rooms seen in the episode are offered again. The website names no owner or operator. Google Maps lists the pub at 37 Wales Street, Winchester SO23 0ET as operational.
