Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visited Iron Barley during the 'Neighborhood Joints' episode for its wild-game dishes and scratch-made bar food in a converted South St. Louis tavern. The restaurant operated for years on Virginia Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood before closing on 2025-04-05, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The paper reported that Iron Barley's owners planned to relocate the restaurant to Jefferson County, reopening under the name Iron Barley's High Hog Ridge at 3367 High Ridge Boulevard in High Ridge, Missouri. A Yelp listing updated 2026-06 shows that High Ridge location marked permanently closed as well, with no listing showing either address currently operating and no new tenant reported at the original Virginia Avenue storefront.

Man v. Food, Season 1, Episode 14 Aired

The episode featured Iron Barley's American comfort food menu at its original South City location in St. Louis. Iron Barley operated on Virginia Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood before owners Tom and Gen Coghill announced a move, according to St. Louis Magazine (2017-06-15); the South City location closed 2017-08-12, and the restaurant reopened in High Ridge, Missouri that September. Co-owner Tom Coghill died 2022-03-11, and Sauce Magazine reported (2022-08-05) that Iron Barley's High Hog Ridge in High Ridge permanently closed 2022-07-23 following his death. Sauce Magazine also reported the space at 3367 High Ridge Boulevard was taken over by Johnny's Hideout featuring Smokey D's Barbecue, a new restaurant and bar from partners Johnny Daus, Jake Kaestner, and Rick Pogue that opened in mid-September 2022.
