What happened after Project Bakeover?

Lyra Lou Cakes, a custom cake shop in a Surrey, British Columbia strip mall, was the fifth episode of Project Bakeover (Food Network Canada) season two, “Cake It to the Limit,” first aired on 2022-04-28. According to the IMDb Pro episode synopsis, Lyra, a trained pastry chef, had run the Filipino custom-cake shop for three years, with her husband Abe working there full time. The synopsis described a small, loyal customer base but not enough income, reduced staff and hours, and little promotion despite a busy location. The synopsis describes plans for the renovation and does not report how the shop fared afterwards.

The synopsis said host Steve Hodge wanted to add Filipino-Western fusion items and a set of standard cakes that customers could order easily, while designer Tiffany Pratt aimed to replace the all-white interior with West Coast motifs, give the storefront a clearer bakery look and add displays that let passersby see the cakes through the window. Wikipedia's episode table lists the items created for the shop: a two-layer citrus tart, savoury stuffed popovers and beaded filled donuts. According to Wikipedia's article on the series, season two ran ten episodes from 2022-03-31 to 2022-06-02.

Vancouver Foodster reported on 2022-11-28 that Lyra Lou Cakes, at 102-14370 64 Avenue in Surrey, tied for first place in the media judges' portion of the site's Cake Challenge with a pistachio ube gateau opera cake, and tied for third in the People's Choice vote. The entry offered the cake on weekends only with at least two days' notice for pickup, and priced the six-inch cake at $40.

Google's place record for the business, read on 2026-10-19, lists it at 14370 64 Avenue #102 as permanently closed. The record carries no closure date, and no later dated source showing the shop in operation turned up in this review.
