What happened after Project Bakeover?

Bluegrass & Buttercream, a specialty bakery and cafe in downtown Danville, Kentucky, owned by Shana Followell, was featured in the third episode of Project Bakeover (Food Network Canada), "Sweet is not a Flavour," which aired 2021-02-18. The Advocate-Messenger (Robin Hart, 2021-03-12) reported that designer Tiffany Pratt led the redesign, that a crew spent seven days renovating the shop in mid-March 2020 and left on March 16, and that the bakery closed the next day because of the pandemic before reopening on June 3. The paper added that the episode had been expected to air in the U.S. at the same time as in Canada but that the schedule was disrupted. Followell called the experience "a wild ride" and told the paper the production gave her no room to offer input on the changes.

Wikipedia's episode table credits the new items from pastry chef Steve Hodge as a Kentucky hot brown quiche, a brown butter banana bread and cupcakes made from scratch. The same page describes the series as one that helps struggling bakeries remake their menus and decor.

Before the show, the same newspaper (Kendra Peek, 2017-09-11) reported that Followell, then 27, was opening the bakery at 115 N. Third Street, in the former home of Pies for You and Cookies Too, with an opening date of 2017-09-26 and hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. According to the 2021 article, she moved the business in September 2019 from that smaller Third Street space to a Main Street storefront. A Danville tourism page at danvillekentucky.com, dated 2022-07-27, listed the bakery at 201 W. Main Street and described gourmet cupcakes, decorative cookies, whimsical birthday cakes and homemade cookie butter; it did not say whether the shop was still taking orders.

The most recent evidence is a Google Places record retrieved 2026-10-19 for Bluegrass & Buttercream at 201 W Main St, Suite A, which marks the business permanently closed. A listing's status is not a closure date. The business's Facebook page, which the record gives as its website, would not load usable content in a check that day, and no news report or owner announcement about the closing was found, so the date and the reasons are unknown.
