What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?
The episode 'Desert Island Dish' featured Ma'am Sir, a modern Filipino restaurant in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood built around chef and owner Charles Olalia's family-style menu, which included dishes such as sea urchin lumpia and Happy Birthday Chicken, according to the Asian Journal. The restaurant occupied a 1,800-square-foot space at 4330 Sunset Boulevard beginning in June 2018. According to the Asian Journal, Olalia announced on August 28, 2020 that Ma'am Sir had closed, writing on Instagram, 'There will come a time when I can welcome you again.' The Asian Journal reported that Olalia, previously a chef at Patina and mar'sel at Terranea Resort, had also operated Rice Bar in downtown Los Angeles before closing it in 2019 to focus on Ma'am Sir.
