What happened after Restaurant Makeover?

Rubicon Grill, in Mississauga, Ontario, was the twelfth episode of Restaurant Makeover's third season and first aired on 2007-01-01. Rotten Tomatoes' episode guide describes the work as the design team turning the grill into a friendly environment for both sexes; its entry spells the name 'Rubincon.' Wikipedia's list of renovated restaurants names Lynn Crawford as the chef and Glen Peloso as the designer. Taken together, the sources suggest the redesign aimed to make the room welcoming to women and men alike, but they do not describe what the grill looked like before, who owned it, what the budget was, how the menu changed or what the relaunch involved. NOW Toronto reported on 2010-03-30 that Crawford was the star of Food Network's Restaurant Makeover, though that article does not mention this episode. According to Wikipedia's article on the series, the owner's funds were matched up to $20,000 in the early seasons and up to $15,000 later.

On the later history, Wikipedia's list of renovated restaurants marks Rubicon Grill as no longer open and adds a note attributing the closure to a fire. That is a lead taken from a show list. No news report, fire-service record or second source was found, so neither the closure nor its cause is confirmed here. A Google Places lookup on 2026-10-19 returned Grillado's Mississauga Halal Steak & BBQ at 5165 Dixie Rd, a business with a different name and concept that was not used. Two web searches that day, one pairing the grill's name with Mississauga and the word fire and one pairing it with the word address, returned articles about fires at other Mississauga restaurants, a publishing company with a similar name and several real estate and delivery-app pages. None of the results was titled for the grill from the show, and none was relied on. Because no address could be established, no map coordinates are recorded.

Wikipedia's table of Restaurant Makeover restaurants, read 2026-10-20, records that Rubicon Grill in Mississauga closed because of a fire, citing a Mississauga.com report from March 2009 on a fire that closed part of Lakeshore Road. A Google Maps search for Rubicon Grill in Mississauga the same day returned no listing for it.
