What happened after Bar Rescue?
On the "Scoreboard to Death" episode of Bar Rescue (aired March 30, 2014), Jon Taffer visited Scoreboard, a sports bar in Norwalk, California that Larry Herrick had purchased for his daughter Michelle to run with her husband Barry. Recon visits, which included undercover guests Maria Menounos and Keven Undergaro, found spoiled and expired ingredients, insect activity in liquor bottles, and cocktails and food that customers found unpalatable. Michelle, who held a management degree, had struggled to apply it day to day, and Barry's outside jobs limited the time he could give the bar; the business was deep in debt and the owners were considering a sale before calling the show.
Taffer had the bar professionally treated for pests and thoroughly cleaned, coached Michelle directly on her management approach, and rebranded the concept entirely as Agave Junction Cantina, introducing a Mexican-food and tequila-based cocktail menu along with new interior and exterior design. The hundred-person stress test that followed went well enough that the owners felt confident heading into the relaunch. Reviews posted in the months after the relaunch were generally positive about the food and drink selection, with some complaints about pricing. In December 2016, according to the Whittier Daily News, three patrons were stabbed by another individual at the bar, who then fled the scene; all three survived.
According to Reality TV Updates, Agave Junction Cantina closed in September 2018, roughly four and a half years after the Bar Rescue episode aired, with the property reported to have sold for $825,000. The location at 11957 Firestone Blvd, Norwalk, CA has since been occupied by an unrelated business, Sushi Joint, which carried a notably higher Yelp rating than Agave Junction Cantina had at the time of its closure, according to a 2023 documented comparison of the two businesses' review pages.
