What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?

Best Thing I Ever Ate featured Szechuan Gourmet in the episode 'With Chopsticks.' Szechuan Gourmet is a Sichuan restaurant at 21 West 39th Street in Manhattan that has appeared on the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, according to guide.michelin.com. The restaurant rebuilt and reopened at this address after a 2018 fire, per the same Michelin Guide entry. A Yelp listing for 21 W 39th St is labeled closed, updated 2026-09, while a related ordering site, szechuangourmetny.com, displayed current hours and an active pickup-and-delivery option under a listing for 'Szechuan Gourmet 39.' A direct check of szechuan-gourmet.com on 2026-09-08 returned a generic 'Site Maintenance' page rather than restaurant content. In a September 2026 check, Google's listing also marked Szechuan Gourmet at 21 West 39th Street permanently closed.
