The Palace Is Now The Palace Lounge — What Happened After Bar Rescue?

The Palace was a Moroccan-themed bar and restaurant in Upland, California, run by co-owners identified on the show as Ghazi and his brother-in-law Sam. On the episode "Brokedown Palace" (aired 2015-07-19), the business was shown at risk because one of the owners was depleting the bar's liquor inventory for personal use and resisting changes to the concept, according to the show's producers, a dynamic the rescue focused on directly alongside operational issues common to bars losing money to unmonitored consumption. The rescue's stress test and staff retraining focused on service consistency, an area the show's producers said had suffered as the ownership dispute distracted from day-to-day operations.

As part of the rescue, host Jon Taffer redesigned the space and renamed it Menara, leaning further into the venue's Middle Eastern and North African theme with references to Moroccan culture and design, including new decor and a refreshed menu built around the new concept. The Menara name did not last. Within a short period after the episode aired, the owners moved away from Taffer's rename and returned to operating under a version of the original name, now used as The Palace Lounge, while keeping much of the Middle Eastern-themed concept, including a hookah lounge, belly-dancing performances and live Arabic music that reviewers have since described at the location.

The business has continued operating at 1276 West 7th Street in Upland under the reverted Palace Lounge name. A Yelp listing for The Palace Lounge shows an active business page with 136 reviews and 120 photos, with the listing carrying an update dated August 2026, indicating the venue remains open under that name more than a decade after its Bar Rescue appearance. A Facebook page under the name "The Palace" also lists the Upland restaurant, though its current posting activity could not be independently confirmed for this update.
