What Happened to Bernie's Burger Bus After Food Paradise? (Bellaire, TX)

Food Paradise, Season 13 Bellaire, Texas Closed May 2020

Current status

Closed

As of October 2026, Bernie's Burger Bus has closed — confirmed via communityimpact.com, May 28, 2020.

What the source shows: Community Impact reported on 2020-05-28 that owner Justin Turner announced all Bernie's Burger Bus locations would permanently close by May 31, 2020, citing COVID-19 financial hardship, and ABC13 covered the Bellaire location's closure as that deadline arrived. A fresh check confirms Google Places still lists the Bellaire address as "Permanently closed" (a 2025 PINCHO pop-up collaboration under the same chef is a limited-time event, not a reopening of this location). What happened after Food Paradise?

On 'Extreme Burgers,' the show visited Bernie's Burger Bus in Bellaire, spotlighting chef Justin Turner's gourmet, chef-driven burger creations. The concept began as a single food truck in 2010 before Turner expanded to several Houston-area brick-and-mortar locations, including the Bellaire restaurant. According to Community Impact, Turner announced on 2020-05-28 that all Bernie's Burger Bus locations, including Bellaire, would permanently close by May 31, 2020, citing mounting debt and falling sales during the COVID-19 outbreak. ABC13 reported that the Bellaire location, the chain's last remaining restaurant, closed permanently as that deadline arrived.

According to CultureMap Houston, neighbors organized a makeshift drive-thru in the restaurant's final days to support the business. Google Places lists the Bellaire address as permanently closed. None of the four Houston-area Bernie's Burger Bus locations reopened after the 2020 closure.
