WTVR reported 2025-08-14 that founder Buz Grossberg began his barbecue business in 1992 in downtown Richmond after learning the craft from a mentor named Ned, and that the restaurant later gained national attention, including a televised 2007 rib cook-off against chef Bobby Flay that Grossberg won. WTVR also reported 2025-08-14 that after 33 years, Grossberg had put Buz and Ned's up for sale, though the restaurant continued operating at its West Broad Street location at that time. Google's business listing, checked 2026-09-08, still marked Buz and Ned's Real Barbecue as operational at the same West Broad Street address. No dated source found within this search located a completed sale or a closure since WTVR's August 2025 report.
