Owners Collin McFadden and Megan Brinkley opened Byways in 1999, and readers of The Oregonian voted it the city's best brunch spot in 2016. Willamette Week reported on 2019-11-15 that the owners announced Byways would close by the end of the year after they could not reach a new lease agreement with the landlord, who had held the building up for sale for nearly two years. KOIN reported the closure the same week, and the Portland Mercury covered it in its November 2019 food news roundup.
