What happened after Restaurant Makeover?
Calypso Hut was a Brampton, Ontario restaurant featured in the Restaurant Makeover episode aired on 2007-11-19. According to TV Guide's season listing, owner Neasha wanted her rum shack turned into a respectable family restaurant. Designer Robin Fraser took on a large space that the build crew's Igor struggled with, and chef Massimo Capra learned to cook with a wok and developed three island-inspired dishes. Rotten Tomatoes' synopsis says the restaurant replaced its bamboo bar and became a more refined restaurant. The sources read give no budget figure and no account of the relaunch.
No page read links the television episode to a specific address. The match used here is Calypso Hut Family Restaurant at 263 Queen Street East in Brampton. A Tagvenue listing for that restaurant describes Caribbean-Chinese food, halal and with Guyanese-style Chinese dishes, a business established in 1989, and a dining room seating up to 125, details that fit the wok cooking and the large space in the episode. The tie is an inference from those details and the Brampton location, not something any source says outright. Wikipedia's list of Restaurant Makeover restaurants gives no location for Calypso Hut and marks it as not still open, with no date or source for that mark.
On 2026-10-19 the restaurant's website, which carries a 2026 copyright notice, offered online ordering and gift cards through Toast, an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet at $19.95 from Wednesday to Friday between noon and 3 p.m., weekday specials on kids' meals, beer and wings, a banner reading patio now open, a Caribana-themed limited menu for July 20 to August 3 (year not given), and a link about franchising opportunities. Tagvenue's page, also carrying a 2026 copyright, lists opening hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and notes that the restaurant has been a Tagvenue partner for two years. The sources read do not describe what the episode changed in detail, or whether the restaurant's name or ownership changed after 2007.
