What happened after Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back?
Caneda's White Rooster had been open less than a year in Toms River, New Jersey when it appeared in the third episode of Season 3, airing January 21, 2020, after filming the previous October. Owner Patty Caneda had opened the Cuban restaurant with roughly two million dollars of backing from business partner Jeremy Grunin, but the young, inexperienced kitchen staff struggled to execute the menu, and Ramsay was visibly startled by the quality of food coming out of the kitchen during his undercover visit. The episode's reconnaissance segment also featured guest appearances from Grunin and from actors Joseph Gannascoli and Vincent Pastore, both known for roles on The Sopranos, and Grunin returned again at the relaunch in a second disguise. Ramsay's team overhauled the menu, added a new bar, and warmed up the dining room's color palette and finishes for the relaunch on Fischer Boulevard. The show's fix reached beyond the one night: within three months of the makeover, a head chef who had trained at Blend on Main, the New Jersey restaurant featured earlier in the same season, took over the kitchen, replacing the inexperienced cook originally in place. The changes were not enough to carry the business through the following two months. On March 16, 2020, less than two months after the episode aired and only about five months after filming wrapped, Caneda's White Rooster closed; New Jersey outlets WOBM and NJ1015 both reported the closure, attributing it to the mandatory restaurant shutdowns and curfews imposed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, on top of the debt already carried from the buildout. Patty Caneda later moved into real estate work. The Fischer Boulevard space did not stay vacant: a new, unrelated restaurant called JoeBella's Kitchen & Bar has since opened at the same address.
