What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?
Casa Roma was, at the time of its Kitchen Nightmares appearance, the oldest restaurant in Lancaster, California, having first opened in 1958, according to The Takeout's 2025 retrospective on the episode. By 2010 the restaurant was owned by Nylah and her son Jeremy, neither of whom had prior restaurant experience; The Takeout reports the pair discovered after buying the business that its bar side generated most of the revenue while the dining room sat largely empty. Recap sources describe Gordon Ramsay waiting more than an hour for an appetizer on his visit, finding a walk-in refrigerator so unsanitary that he became ill, and using a blacklight to reveal bodily fluids throughout a bathroom; the restaurant's booths and carpeting were also in poor repair.
After a confrontation with head chef Erick over food quality and pacing, Ramsay recommended promoting sous chef Drew to run the kitchen instead. For the relaunch, Ramsay's team converted Casa Roma into a pizzeria with a shorter, simplified menu, staged a pizza-eating contest tied to the restaurant's fiftieth anniversary, and the reopening was, per The Takeout, successfully carried off despite some early stumbles getting food out to tables. A year later, on a follow-up visit recapped by Reality TV Updates, Nylah had bought out her son's stake in the business and hired a new head chef, and reported business had grown by roughly a third since the episode aired.
The improvement did not hold long-term. According to The Takeout, declining Yelp reviews in the years that followed led Nylah to sell part of the business, and the restaurant was renamed AV Roadhouse, discarding Ramsay's menu; in 2015 it was renamed again to CR Roadhouse, serving Mexican food with kitchen staff drawn from another recently closed local restaurant. The business reverted to the Casa Roma name before Nylah announced on the restaurant's Facebook page that "As of July 1st Casa Roma will be closing their doors for good," a post from around 2017 quoted by Reality TV Updates; The Takeout separately dates the closure to 2017 and reports that Nylah retired the following year.
As of a 2023 update from Reality TV Updates, the former Casa Roma building in Lancaster was occupied by an unrelated business called Salon Garibaldi. The Takeout's account adds that, as of early 2025, only 22 of the restaurants Kitchen Nightmares had worked with remained open, with Casa Roma counted among the many that did not.
