What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?
On Food Network's Best Thing I Ever Ate, in the 2011 episode "French Favorites," Claire Robinson named Everest's foie gras terrine with marinated figs as her favorite bite. Everest was chef Jean Joho's Alsatian French fine-dining restaurant, which opened in October 1986 on the 40th floor of 425 South Financial Place in Chicago's Loop; Chicago Tribune critic Phil Vettel awarded the restaurant four stars, his top rating, in a 2013 review. According to the Chicago Tribune, reported on 2020-10-16, the building's owner did not renew Everest's lease, and chef Joho announced the restaurant would close at the end of that year rather than relocate; the restaurant served its final night of service on 2020-12-31. Google's Places listing, checked 2026-09-08, still marks Everest as permanently closed, consistent with the Tribune's report.
