What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The Godolphin Arms Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, was featured in the eighth episode of series 9 of The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5), first aired on 2012-08-23. Wikipedia's episode list, read on 2026-10-19, titles it "Godolphin 'Arms' Hotel + B&B" and says Alex Polizzi tried to persuade 71-year-old hotelier Margaret to change her ways. TheTVDB's page for the episode, read the same day, names her as Margaret Ashwood, who had run the hotel for 29 years. TheTVDB also carries a follow-up entry, "The Godolphin Arms Revisited", with a 2014-07-09 air date, which describes a redecoration of the dated rooms and a change in the owner's approach to her guests.

OpenStreetMap-based geocoding places a Godolphin Arms in Newquay on the A3058, postcode TR7 3FW; the record gives no street number. The website tied to that record, godolphinarmshotel.co.uk, displayed on 2026-10-19 a set of unrelated blog posts on topics such as online gaming, football and fashion, dated between 2025-09-01 and 2026-07-22, with no address, phone number or booking details for a hotel. It is therefore not recorded here as the hotel's website.

A Godolphin Arms inn in Marazion, Cornwall, described on a netmagmedia.co.uk page as owned by St Aubyn Estates, is a different location from the Newquay hotel in the episode and is not used here. One web search for the Godolphin Arms with the show's name returned episode listings and travel-site pages for the Marazion inn.

The Voice reported on 1 November 2024 that the OYO Godolphin Arms Hotel on Henver Road in Newquay, a pub and hotel with more than 90 years in business, had closed, and that landlady Margaret Ashwood, 84, known as Muff, who had run it for 41 years, decided to sell after retiring. Ashwood is the name TheTVDB gives for the hotelier in the 2012 episode. The Voice said on 26 February 2025 that Cornwall Council had approved plans to turn the building into a residential care home specialising in mental health, and that the building had been on the market since November 2023.
