What happened after Food Paradise?
Food Paradise featured Hat Yai in Portland, Oregon, in the season 11 premiere episode "Lay It on Thick," spotlighting the restaurant's Southern Thai fried chicken. The business operates as a Thai restaurant founded by chef Earl Ninsom and Alan Akwai, according to a Wikipedia article on the restaurant revised 2026-07-11, which also describes two current Portland locations, in the Killingsworth Street and Belmont Street areas. Yelp's listing for the Killingsworth Street location, updated July 2026, shows 819 reviews and photos, and a separate Yelp listing for the Belmont Street location, updated August 2026, shows 447 reviews. Hat Yai's own website, hatyaipdx.com, was checked 2026-09-08 and returned current hours and an active online ordering system, but the page's copyright notice and other dated text read 2021, so that site alone was not treated as current evidence; the Yelp and Wikipedia sources instead establish that the restaurant remains open.
