What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?
La Frite, a French bistro on Ventura Boulevard in the Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles, was featured in Kitchen Nightmares' eleventh episode of Season 4, filmed in early 2011 and aired April 29, 2011. French immigrant Andre Ramillon had opened the restaurant in 1972 and, nearing retirement, had brought in his son Alex and later his daughter Celine to help run it; the siblings clashed over control, and longtime head chef Martine resisted input from Celine and, at one point, prepared Ramsay's lunch in a microwave. Ramsay found the food underseasoned and the kitchen burnt out, and traced much of the dysfunction to the family's inability to communicate, with Alex avoiding confrontation and Celine's ideas routinely dismissed.
Ramsay's approach centered on repairing the family relationship as much as the food: he pushed Alex to acknowledge his resentment toward his sister and commit to working with her, then rebuilt the menu and brought in a new executive chef, Chuy, to run the kitchen going forward. The relaunch went smoothly, and the family described a noticeably better working relationship afterward.
Kitchen Nightmares revisited La Frite as part of a Season 5 special, finding the family working well together and the food substantially improved under Chef Chuy. The restaurant kept its momentum for several more years before Andre, ready to retire, sold it in 2016 to a new owner who initially kept the La Frite name and concept. In late 2017 the new owner converted the space into an Italian restaurant called Modo Mio. According to a Reality TV Updates account of the property's history, which has not been independently reconfirmed, Modo Mio itself shut down in 2021, and a Google Street View image from February 2023 showed the Ventura Boulevard storefront boarded up; a commercial listing for the building shows it was marketed for sale or lease beginning in 2019. No restaurant is currently confirmed operating at the address.
