What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?

Grasshopper Also, an Irish-style pub on Washington Avenue in Carlstadt, New Jersey, was the subject of Kitchen Nightmares' fifth episode of Season 4, filmed in November 2010 and aired February 18, 2011. The business was owned by married couple Mitch and Maureen along with Maureen's father, known on the show as Chief, a restaurant veteran of more than four decades who had put roughly three million dollars into the venture. Chief openly blamed son-in-law Mitch, the kitchen's manager, for the restaurant's decline, and floor manager Annette told Ramsay bluntly that the food was bad. Tasting the French onion soup, a cottage pie mislabeled as shepherd's pie, and a fisherman's platter, Ramsay agreed, and a kitchen walkthrough turned up frozen scallops, poultry blood on stored mozzarella sticks, and cross-contaminated raw and cooked meat, prompting him to close the kitchen for the night and have the spoiled inventory thrown out. None of the cooks, he found, actually knew how to prepare Irish dishes. Away from the restaurant, Ramsay learned that the tension between Mitch and Chief had strained Mitch and Maureen's marriage, with Maureen caught mediating between her husband and her father.

Ramsay's fix combined a menu overhaul, built around a proper shepherd's pie and fish and chips, with a redesigned dining room and a new point-of-sale system, plus a visiting chef brought in to retrain the kitchen. He also pushed Mitch to take a more active role on the floor and encouraged Chief to step back from micromanaging him.

The changes produced an initial bump in business and friendlier reviews, but the improvement did not last. The owners sold Grasshopper Also in October 2012, about two years after Ramsay's visit, and the space passed through several short-lived successors, including Eastside Ale House and later Primetime Sports Lounge & Restaurant, before becoming Segovia Meson, a Spanish tapas restaurant. A Yelp listing for Segovia Meson was updated in August 2026 with over 200 reviews, and the business's own website remains active, indicating a different restaurant under new ownership now operates at the Washington Avenue address.
