What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?
Part 1 — Season 10, Episode 9 Aired
Lyla's Family Restaurant is a Mediterranean-inspired diner in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, opened in 2015 by chef-owner Waleed Elqawlaq as a neighborhood spot serving comfort food with Middle Eastern touches. According to Kitchen Nightmares' official synopsis for the two-part season 10 episode -- filmed in 2025 and airing September 8, 2026 as episodes nine and ten -- the restaurant had grown into a sprawling menu and an overwhelmed kitchen, with a steady stream of dishes sent back by customers leaving the business, which Waleed had built toward the American Dream, on the brink of collapse; the restaurant's own account says it thrived after opening but was challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. Gordon Ramsay's team gave the restaurant a full renovation and rebuilt the kitchen, and the show's synopsis for the second half of the two-parter describes a "shocking opening-day emergency" that threatened the relaunch just as the new Lyla's was ready to debut; Part 2 shows that emergency, a grill fire during relaunch service that briefly sent diners outside until firefighters brought it under control.
The restaurant's own account of the visit, published alongside a locally reported story in the Akron Beacon Journal on July 3, 2025 under the headline "Lyla's Family Restaurant reopens after Gordon Ramsay filming, remodel," describes Ramsay and his team reworking the dining room around a display wall of cookware, and says Ramsay mentored Waleed directly on technique while the two collaborated on new dishes blending classic diner staples with Waleed's Mediterranean heritage, including a pistachio pancake dessert-style dish and a falafel-based savory waffle; Ramsay is quoted by the restaurant as calling one new dish "brilliant." Lyla's Family Restaurant continues to operate at 1911 Bailey Rd in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its current website and active online ordering and delivery links describe an elevated Mediterranean-influenced menu alongside the original comfort-food staples, and the restaurant maintains social media accounts and takes reservations directly. Moviedelic's recap, published the day the episode aired (September 8, 2026), reported that Lyla's "has continued to welcome diners" at 1911 Bailey Road, and the restaurant's own website, checked October 18, 2026, still listed daily hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with online ordering.
Part 2 — Season 10, Episode 10 Aired
Part 2 of Kitchen Nightmares' two-part visit to Lyla's Family Restaurant aired on Fox at 9 p.m. Eastern on September 8, 2026, directly after Part 1, according to TVmaze's listings for Season 10, Episodes 9 and 10. The episode synopsis listed on TVmaze centers this half on "a shocking opening-day emergency" that "threatens to undo everything" just as the Cuyahoga Falls diner prepares for its fresh start. According to Moviedelic's recap, published the day of the broadcast, the episode moves from the finished makeover and a reduced menu to relaunch day, when members of the local community turned out to support chef-owner Waleed Elqawlaq's restaurant.
Gordon Ramsay reminded the kitchen staff to work steadily, since it was not a race. The emergency came after customers had begun receiving their dishes: the grill caught fire. Staff asked diners to step outside briefly while firefighters brought the fire under control, and Ramsay's team then stepped in to help get the kitchen back on track. The recap does not describe a cause or report any injuries. The recap describes continued difficulties after the fire.
Servers struggled with the new system, and food sat in the service window. Tensions rose when a server became frustrated with a member of Ramsay's kitchen team, and Ramsay persuaded her to step away for the rest of the night. Positive reactions from customers then lifted the remaining staff's spirits, and before leaving, Ramsay urged Waleed to maintain the standards they had established. The recap reports that four months later, patrons continued to praise the food and leave positive reviews, and it calls the relaunch "the beginning of a promising new chapter" for Waleed and his team.
The same Moviedelic article, dated September 8, 2026, says Lyla's "has continued to welcome diners" at 1911 Bailey Road, open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with ordering through its website, Grubhub and DoorDash. It also notes post-renovation hiring in July 2025, a day in October 2025 when the restaurant donated 10 percent of proceeds to the Cuyahoga Falls Youth Football and Cheerleading initiative, and a new online menu in August 2026. When checked on October 18, 2026, the restaurant's own website still listed Monday-through-Sunday hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., linked to online ordering and DoorDash, and credited "Gordon Ramsay and his world-class team" with reimagining the restaurant.
