What happened after Man v. Food?
Man v. Food's Phoenix episode (S7E10, aired July 16, 2018) also stopped at MacAlpine's Diner & Soda Fountain, a Phoenix diner and one of the country's few remaining old-fashioned soda fountains, which first opened in 1929, according to the restaurant's own history page. The diner is known for classic counter fare — malts, sundaes and pies — served from a long-running lunch counter. MacAlpine's went through a lengthy, pandemic-related closure and received a $50,000 preservation grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help fund its comeback, reported by ABC15 and Arizona Foothills Magazine.
It reopened in spring 2024 after nearly four years shut, according to Axios Phoenix (April 17, 2024), and an AZFamily feature (April 16, 2025) found it still serving customers a year later. A Yelp listing for the diner's 7th Street address shows continuing reviews updated as of September 2026.
