What Happened to Paliani's Restaurant After Restaurant: Impossible (FN)?

Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network) visited Paliani's Restaurant in Burton, Michigan, for an episode that aired September 12, 2012. As shown in the episode, owner Marina was struggling to keep the pizza restaurant viable, and Robert Irvine's team stepped in for the show's standard two-day renovation of the menu, kitchen operations, and dining room. Following the broadcast, the restaurant saw an initial jump in business, but according to Marina's own account, reported by local radio outlet Banana 101.5, the boost lasted only about two months before it faded.

Marina told the outlet that many of Paliani's longtime regulars did not care for the changes Irvine's team had made to the menu and dining room, and that dissatisfaction contributed directly to the decline that followed the initial surge in ways the show could not reverse. Food Network Gossip reported in December 2012 — just months after the episode aired — that Paliani's Restaurant was closing, one of the faster post-show closures among the restaurants Irvine visited that season. The business had operated at 5448 Lapeer Road in Burton since well before its television appearance and had been a neighborhood pizza stop for years prior to Irvine's visit.

The address has since cycled through at least one more pizza operation carrying a similar name. Yelp lists a "Paliani's Pizza Takeout and Restaurant" at the same 5448 Lapeer Road address, marked permanently closed as of a September 2025 update, and a separate listing for "Pizza Takeout Paliani" at the same address, also marked closed, updated in September 2026. Together, the two later Yelp listings suggest a successor pizza business tried operating from the location after the original Paliani's closed, but that it did not last either, leaving the address without an active restaurant as of this check, roughly thirteen years after Paliani's first appeared on Restaurant: Impossible.
