What Happened to Schafer's Bar & Grill After Bar Rescue? (Sumner, WA)

Schafer's Bar & Grill in Sumner, Washington, appeared on "Bar Rescue" in the episode "Listen Y'all It's Sabotage," which aired in October 2016. The episode addressed a bar plagued by disorganized operations and menu and drink offerings that were not connecting with its local customer base, along with interpersonal friction among staff that often features in the show's sabotage-themed episodes. Jon Taffer's team overhauled the bar and food program and renamed the business R. Lee's as part of the relaunch. The new name did not last.

According to Reality TV Updates and Bar Rescue Updates, the owners changed the name back to Schafer's Bar & Grill shortly after Taffer's team left, and the owners were largely unresponsive to later follow-up outreach from the show, limiting how much is documented about the bar's immediate post-rescue performance. The business went through at least one more identity change after that. According to Reality TV Updates, the location was renamed again, to Scorpion Lounge & Steakhouse, in 2019, and closed in 2020, several years after the original televised rescue and under a name unrelated to either Schafer's or R. Lee's. That later rename and closure date could not be independently corroborated by a second dated source beyond that fan site's reporting, so it is presented here as a single-source account pending further confirmation.

What is confirmed independently is that the address is no longer an operating bar. Yelp's listing for Schafer's Bar & Grill at 16202 64th Street East, last updated in August 2026, shows the business marked closed, with 86 accumulated reviews spanning its history under that name. Whether or not the interim Scorpion Lounge & Steakhouse chapter is accurate, the Sumner location that hosted three different bar identities across less than a decade has not operated as a bar under any of those names for several years.
