Social was a contemporary American restaurant in Costa Mesa, California, owned by Andrew 'Drew' Dorsey and his wife Raquel, that had opened as a trendy destination four years before Gordon Ramsay's 2018 visit before struggling to keep tables filled. At the time of filming, the restaurant had recently brought on a new head chef, Jayro, but the rest of the kitchen would not fully accept his leadership, while a previous chef, Jose, had returned to a lower-ranking role. Ramsay sent in a professional Ramsay impersonator as a decoy diner, then visited in his own disguise as a customer; the impersonator's table received attentive service while Ramsay's own table was largely ignored. He was unimpressed by dishes garnished with edible flowers, and after revealing himself, showed the staff hidden-camera footage of employees drinking on shift and working in an unclean kitchen, along with an employee who had been recorded coughing near food.

To resolve the kitchen leadership dispute, Ramsay staged a head-to-head cooking challenge between Jayro and Jose, which Jose won, and named him executive chef. Ramsay also told owner Raquel she needed to separate her personal relationships from how she ran the business. The team then trained on a new menu, and the space was redecorated with warmer tones before the relaunch, which drew a large crowd; a food critic in attendance waited more than an hour for her order but was satisfied once it arrived, and the kitchen improved its pace as the night went on.

Three months after the episode aired in March 2019, the show's own follow-up visit found Drew taking on more of a leadership role, with Jose settled in as the kitchen's lead.
