What happened after Mystery Diners?
On the Season 8 episode "Thanksgiving Thievery" (Mystery Diners, aired 2014-11-10), Kristian, owner of Tavern on Main in El Segundo, suspected a staff member was pocketing money and goods collected for the restaurant's annual Thanksgiving food drive instead of passing them to the intended recipients. He contacted investigator Charles Stiles, who placed hidden cameras in the bar and dining room and sent in undercover mystery diners posing as regular customers to watch how employees handled the donation bins during service. According to Wikipedia's article on the program, citing its sources, the show's own end-credits disclaimer allows that certain events may have been staged or re-enacted for dramatic effect, and a television critic quoted in the article judged the show's scenarios implausible and not intended to appear convincing.
Tavern on Main is a sports-bar-style tavern at 123 Main St. known locally for its happy-hour crowds and game-day seating. Yelp's listing for the tavern, updated in July 2026, showed more than 400 reviews and no closure notice, and TripAdvisor's page for the restaurant carried reviews dated into 2026 as well. The restaurant's own website returned an HTTP 403 error when checked on 2026-09-09, so this check relied on the third-party listings rather than the site itself. Neither listing mentioned a change of ownership, a rebrand, or a relocation since the 2014 broadcast, and Google's business record for the Main Street address carried no closure flag either.
