What happened after Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares?
The Fenwick Arms was a Punch Taverns pub in Claughton, in the Lune Valley near Lancaster, run by licensee Brian Rey and his wife Elaine when Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (Channel 4) aired its episode on 2006-11-21. The Morning Advertiser reported on 2006-12-21 that filming took place in September 2006 and that the couple had put about £250,000 of loans into the business over three years. According to Wikipedia's episode list, Brian was cooking and running the kitchen on a working week of roughly 100 to 120 hours, his sauces and a menu that did not suit a pub drew criticism, and he had built up a large collection of crockery bought online.
What the rescue changed: Ramsay simplified the menu toward classic pub dishes, per Wikipedia. The Morning Advertiser said he reworded the descriptions, added only two new dishes and told Brian to stop making a separate sauce for everything. Wikipedia's list says Brian was moved to front of house and told to sell his plate collection, and that the pub took up a campaign to bring back real gravy. Two chefs left right after filming, the Morning Advertiser reported, so Brian went back into the kitchen.
The relaunch: The Morning Advertiser reported on 2006-12-21 that weekly covers rose from roughly 280 to 300 before the visit to between about 650 and nearly 700 afterward, that annual turnover was forecast to climb from £315,000 to £450,000, and that on the Sunday after the broadcast the pub served 196 meals, 149 of them roast beef. The pub's website had drawn 2.5 million hits by then.
A follow-up episode aired on 2007-11-13. Marketing Lancashire reported on 2015-12-09 that the venue, previously called the Fenwick Arms, was by then The Fenwick, had reopened as a gastropub in May 2013 after a refurbishment, and was owned by The Seafood Pub Company, which planned nine new bedrooms for January 2016. Harden's restaurant guide lists the pub under the Fenwick Arms name with survey results for 2023 and 2024 and says it is run by The Oakman Group and specializes in seafood. The pub's own website, as of October 2026, describes a 250-year-old pub, restaurant and guest house with nine bedrooms and offers table and room booking online, and a Visit Lancashire directory entry shows opening hours and a 2026 copyright footer.
The Fenwick Arms Revisited, aired on 2007-11-13, was Ramsay's return to the Punch Taverns pub in Claughton, near Lancaster, a year after the first episode of 2006-11-21 in Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (Channel 4). The Morning Advertiser, in an article by Joe Lutrario dated 2007-11-14, reported that licensee Brian Rey said the business had sunk to an all-time low before Ramsay's help because of the couple's personal circumstances, and that staff were preparing for a record week as the follow-up aired.
The first visit in brief: Wikipedia's episode list says Ramsay had moved Brian from the kitchen to front of house, told him to sell his crockery collection, and simplified the menu to classic pub dishes, and that the pub had taken up a campaign to bring back real gravy.
The revisit: According to Wikipedia's episode list, Brian had gone back into the kitchen to cover staff shortages, against Ramsay's request, and was drifting back toward old habits. Ramsay was impressed by the roast beef and gravy, but not by the plating or by the presentation of the prawn cocktail.
The gravy campaign: The Morning Advertiser said that during the program Rey launched the Campaign for Real Gravy with Ramsay's support, and that he planned a range of homemade gravy products and was negotiating with a major food company to sell them in supermarkets early the following year. A second Morning Advertiser piece, dated 2007-11-15, said much the same, described Rey as the licensee of Punch's Fenwick Arms who ran the pub with his wife Elaine, and added that the pub's website had received more than ten million hits.
Marketing Lancashire reported on 2015-12-09 that the pub, previously called the Fenwick Arms, had reopened as a gastropub in May 2013 after a refurbishment and was owned by The Seafood Pub Company.
