What happened after Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares?
The Sandgate Hotel was a small seaside hotel with a restaurant on the Esplanade at Sandgate, near Folkestone in Kent, and the second episode of the third series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which Channel 4 aired on 2006-02-28. TheTVDB's listing says Ramsay went to help the husband-and-wife team of Lois and Peter Hamilton-Slade, and Wikipedia's article on Sandgate describes a fourteen-room hotel.
According to Wikipedia's episode summary, the hotel had a bar, a restaurant and a Japanese restaurant downstairs, all served by a single kitchen with a separate menu for each. The head chef was uncomfortable with the range and had no Japanese cooking experience, orders arrived by intercom and disrupted the kitchen, there were too many managers, and staff spending at the hotel's own bar was helping to keep it going. The chef also lost his AA rosette during the week. Kent Online, in 2025, summarized the episode's problems as a complicated menu, weak leadership and staff taking drinks from the bar.
Ramsay's rescue turned the Japanese restaurant into an exclusive dining area, focused the menu on fresh seafood, and put the owner in charge of the front of house as host. The summary mentions no change of name or decor. At the return visit, Wikipedia says turnover had doubled; the chef had not regained his rosette, but his morale and enthusiasm had improved.
Kent Online reported on 2025-12-11 that the hotel closed suddenly in 2022 without a clear reason given, that one of its restaurant spaces reopened as Lido Bon Vino in 2023 and closed a year later, and that the operating company was dissolved in 2024.
